This year our theme is “Building A Culture of Workplace Flexibility”. We will explore how local companies are developing their organizational culture.
It is becoming more challenging to balance work and life – it is definitely more complex with the fast pace of society. There are many changes with the many demands placed on employers and families today. Cultures designed to support flexibility in how employers and employees live and work now have more options and benefits than ever before. It is more important to continue to focus on developing strategies to increase the ability to meet the needs for both life and work. For organizations that understand how to assess both employee and organizational needs as well as the ability to measure results have a higher probability of building a successful culture of increased flexibility. Anne G. Tülek
President, Access Sciences Corporation
Anne G. Tülek has more than 20 years of experience improving how organizations use information and technology. She has worked domestically and internationally, serving a variety of industries including energy, chemicals, utilities, financial services, health care, manufacturing, and consumer products.
In addition to guiding and advising on information management and technology programs for clients, Ms. Tülek spent many years implementing ERP programs, data warehousing technology, and early generation company portals.
As President of Access Sciences, Ms. Tülek is responsible for the growth, profitability, and financial health of the company. She is a member of ARMA International, the Greater Houston Partnership, Bio Houston, the Rice Alliance, the Houston Technology Center, and serves as a board member of the AIIM Southwest Chapter. Ms. Tülek has been published numerous times and routinely speaks at industry events on information management, technology, and organization change topics.
Ms. Tülek is a summa cum laude graduate of Sam Houston State University and earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Texas at Austin.
Bernie Satterwhite
City Manager, City of Bellaire
Bernie was appointed to his current position as City Manager in December 2000. While serving as Bellaire’s City Manager, Bernie has managed complex infrastructure projects, guided Bellaire to a AAA bond rating, retooled the staff organization and improved
communications with citizens.
Prior to joining the City staff, he spent two years as Executive Director of the United Way of Lauderdale County (Mississippi) in Meridian, MS. Where he solicited, collected and distributed nearly one million dollars in donated funds to 9 area charitable organizations annually. Prior to that, Bernie served for 25 years in the U.S. Navy as a carrier-based pilot. During that time, he deployed worldwide on various aircraft carriers and served in numerous shore-based assignments in Texas and Virginia. He commanded a shipboard A-6 Intruder attack squadron, based in NAF Atsugi, Japan and deployed on USS Midway during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990-91.
He subsequently served as commanding officer of a shore-based A-6 training squadron and the east coast A-6 Airwing based in Virginia Beach, Va. He retired from the Navy in June 1998, after completing his fourth command tour, this time as Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Meridian, MS in June 1998. Bernie received numerous awards and citations during his naval career, including the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star medal, in addition to other individual and service awards.
Bernie received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies and National Security Decision Making from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He is a member of the Texas City Management Association (TCMA).
He is an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Houston and past-chairman of its Board of Elders, and a member and past-president of the Bellaire/SW Houston Rotary Club. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Helen and Clyde Wilburn Scholarship Foundation and is a member of the Houston Immunization Partnership.
He and his wife Pat live in Bellaire and have three adult children and three grandchildren.
Brint Ryan

G. Brint Ryan, MS, CPA, is the Founder and CEO of Ryan, the leading tax services firm in North America, with the largest transaction tax practice in the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the Firm of over 900 professionals provides a comprehensive range of state, local, federal, and international tax advisory and consulting services on a multi-jurisdictional basis.
Mr. Ryan is an appointee to the Taxpayer Advisory Group, an advisory committee appointed by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Susan Combs. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Business, the Board of Directors of the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Ryan is also a member of the University of North Texas (UNT) System Board of Regents, appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to a six year term beginning in 2009, and he is the inaugural member of the UNT Dallas Founders Circle. Mr. Ryan is a 2010 recipient of the “Customer Service CEO of the Year” award from the Customer Service Institute of America (CSIA), the “CEO of the Year” award from the Houston WorkLife Roundtable, and a Special Recognition award from the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) for his commitment to the leadership development of tax professionals industry-wide.
He is a 2009 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award, a 2003 recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Service Award, and a 1997 recipient of the Alumnus of the Year Award, all from UNT. He is a member of UNT’s College of Business Advisory Board and the UNT Accounting Advisory Board. Mr. Ryan previously served as Chairman of the UNT Accounting Advisory Board. He is a Distinguished Alumnus, Beta Pi Chapter, Beta Alpha Psi.
Brint resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife Amanda and their five daughters. He enjoys spending weekends with his family, and can often be found on Y-Princess functions with his daughters.
Donna Rolland

Donna Rolland is being honored as a 2010/2011 Professional Woman of the Year in Human Resource Management by the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW).
NAPW is a prestigious distinction awarded by the 200,000-strong membership of NAPW who join together to develop creative business and social relationships.
Donna Rolland is justifiably proud of her achievements with the one of the most financially and ethically successful technology innovators in the world. Since joining BMC Software in 2001, Ms. Rolland has been able to align her professional beliefs with a firm whose corporate values reflect her own dedication to excellence.

She is also on the Board of Directors for the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council; she is a proud Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts of America. Ms. Rolland, a native of Chicago, IL., received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.
